The rules for using this website and Margin in early access. Short, because Margin is early and pretending otherwise would not help you.

The short version

  • This is not a customer contract. Margin has no paid plans. Signing in creates a free account that holds only what you send it. If you run Margin against real production data, we will sign a separate written agreement with you. These terms cover the website and early access, and nothing more.
  • Your data stays yours. You grant us only what is needed to run the service for you. The meter records what a call cost — it has no field for the content of a prompt or a reply.
  • The SDKs are MIT-licensed; the service is not. Take the client libraries and do what you like. The hosted product, this site and everything behind them stay ours.
  • Early access comes with no promises about uptime. We may change or withdraw it. Do not build something you cannot afford to lose on top of it yet.

This summary is here to be useful, not to be relied on. The sections below are what actually governs.

Who we are, and what this covers

Margin (“Margin”, “we”, “us”) builds a cross-provider tool that measures what AI-agent work costs per unit of output. These terms govern your use of trymargin.io, the Margin console, and the metering APIs and SDKs that report into it.

What Margin is today, stated plainly

Margin is early. Being specific about that is more useful to you than boilerplate that implies otherwise:

  • There is no password and no registration form. Signing in with your email address, or with Google, creates your account if you do not have one. An email sign-in link works once and expires. The account holds only the data you send it. That is the whole of it.
  • There is nothing to pay for. Margin takes no payments and has no billing system. If that changes, these terms change with it, and you will not be charged for anything under this version.
  • Early access is provided as-is. We give no uptime commitment, no service level and no support commitment. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it.
  • A production relationship is a separate agreement. If you send us real data from a real workload, that is governed by a written agreement between us, not by this page.

Your data, and the licence you give us

You keep everything you send us. You grant Margin a limited licence to host, process and display that data for the purpose of providing the service to you — measuring your costs and showing you the result. That licence ends when the data does.

The meter is metadata-only by construction. The ingest API accepts a closed set of fields — model, tokens, latency, cost, whether an outcome passed. There is no field for a prompt, a response, or any message content, in the API or in either SDK. That is a property of the code, not a policy we ask you to trust.

What you may take, and what stays ours

The client SDKs are MIT-licensed. The Python and TypeScript meters are yours to use, modify and redistribute under those terms, including commercially.

Everything else is not. The hosted service, the console, this website, and the Margin name and marks remain ours. These terms grant you no licence to copy, resell or reverse-engineer them, and no rights are granted by implication.

Acceptable use

Do not use Margin to:

  • break the law, or infringe anyone’s rights;
  • send us data you are not entitled to send — including personal information you have no lawful basis to share;
  • probe, overload or interfere with the service, or work around its limits or its access keys;
  • misrepresent Margin’s measurements as something they are not. Our numbers say what they measured; presenting a simulated figure as a real one is the one misuse we care about most, because it is the thing this product exists to prevent.

Access keys are issued to you and are yours to protect. We store only a SHA-256 hash of a key, never the key itself, so we cannot recover one for you — if a key leaks, tell us and we will issue a new one.

No warranty

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any measurement it produces is suitable for a particular decision you intend to make with it.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Margin is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising out of your use of the service.

Because Margin currently charges nothing, there are no fees to measure a cap against. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to one hundred US dollars (US$100). If you later enter a paid written agreement with us, that agreement’s cap governs instead.

Ending it

You can stop using Margin at any time; deleting your integration is enough. We may suspend or end access if these terms are breached, or if we discontinue early access. On request we will delete the data you sent us, as described in the Privacy Policy.

Changes to these terms

We will update this page as Margin changes — and it will change, because paid plans do not exist yet. The “last updated” date above always reflects the current version. If a change materially affects you and we have a way to reach you, we will.
